If you’ve ever had to choose a name for a newborn baby you’ll know how difficult it can be. Names are associated with past encounters and can be positive or negative. Try choosing the name for a business.

I remember that I wanted to create a business that is accessible to lots of people, that is easy to get to and is approachable and friendly. That’s why it is on the high street, because that’s where everyone can get to.

Now try designing a sign that says it all, in an attractive way, that is smart and “uplifting”. I wanted to create  a sign that is modern and bright, smart and casual, but hopefully, business-like.
Well, according to many of our customers – we’ve done it.

The new sign went up last week and I’m really happy with it. It looks shiny, bright and inviting.
Our shop has become a colourful, quilting sanctuary for all sorts of people. People who had never even thought of sewing before coming to the shop. People of all ages, genders, abilities and backgrounds are quilting together and it makes me happy!

And so – I’m very exited to be hosting a QUILT PINK event throughout September. A collaborative venture where customers will be invited to buy a pack of fabric, follow the instructions to make several “half square triangles” and return them to the shop where we will work together to sew them in to a beautiful quilt. The quilt will then be raffled and the lucky winner will take away a beautiful pink quilt.

But, we are still a shop and we do have lots of wonderful fabrics to sell. We’ve recently taken delivery of a vibrant and colourful collection of fabrics “Mixtape” by Libs Elliott. Libs is a new designer who, as well as designing fabrics designs quilts – check out her website for ideas and inspiration

Haberdashery is always evolving. New products are developed to support new trends in quilting. We have some new rulers for machine quilting and some Sashiko templates for hand sewing. Something for everyone.

Workshops and classes run almost every session here at High Street Quilting. After a lovely summer we’re expecting a busy autumn. It’ll be lovely to see you soon.
Details are on our website.
